Join us for a training session on the new Period Proud Peers programme.
This session is open to young members aged 14-17 and Peer Educators within Girlguiding South West England.
Periods are a normal part of life, but there is still so much silence and stigma around them. A lot of young people don’t receive the support or information they need to feel confident managing their periods or talking about them openly.
When: 2 June 2026 at 7:30pm - 9pm
Where: online
What is the Period Proud Peers programme?
The Period Proud Peers programme aims to help young people learn more about periods and have open and honest conversations about them This programme was created by Plan International UK and has been developed in collaboration with Girlguiding UK.
Who can be a Period Proud Peer?
A Period Proud Peer is someone who is supported and trained to run the period related activities for others in their unit. This could be a young leader, a Ranger, or a Peer Educator. There is a Period Peers handbook which you will be given with all the information needed to run the activities.
How long will the activities take to do?
There are 5 activities in the handbook, and the suggestion is that the Period Peers pick 3 to run. They could run all 3 activities together in 1 evening (each activity will take about 30 minutes) or they could choose to spread the activities out over a couple of meetings, if it’s a topic that your unit would like to engage with more.
Do we have to do anything after completing the activities?
At the end of the Period Peer’s session, you’ll need to support the members of your unit to complete a short anonymous survey from Plan International UK about their experience. This can be completed either individually online by scanning the QR code in the letter with the handbook, or as a group, by completing a paper form and then putting the data into an online form. This data will be shared with Plan International UK, to help them evaluate the success of the programme.
Once the Period Peer has run the activities in your unit, and you’ve completed the feedback survey, you’ll receive an exclusive Period Proud Peers badge for everyone who took part!
We’d also encourage you to do some follow-up activities such as having a period party and inviting friends or relatives, or running a community event to reach more people.
