Girlguiding South West England came together on Sunday 14 September for a special Celebration Event, recognising and honouring the achievements of 30 incredible members who received awards for their dedication and service.
The afternoon was filled with joy, laughter, and entertainment. Alfie the Magician amazed the audience with a series of unforgettable tricks. In one act, a leader randomly chose a page and paragraph from a book. While standing back-to-back, Alfie appeared to read aloud the exact words — only to reveal afterwards that his own book was completely blank!
In another trick, he asked for a signed pound coin and somehow managed to make a cross vanish and reappear on the palm of another volunteer’s hand. Gasps and applause filled the room as Alfie continued with his astonishing predictions — including correctly guessing a destination, trip length, and budget that members had chosen amongst themselves.
Adding to the magic of the afternoon, Hotch Potch - a talented young performance group from the Blackwater Valley Division in Hampshire North, delighted everyone with their beautiful singing. Their music created a wonderful atmosphere and was a highlight of the celebration.
The event was a true reflection of the spirit of Girlguiding - celebrating achievements, creating memories, and enjoying time together as a community.
