"Starting as a young leader at the age of 16 to then becoming a county commissioner years later, Girlguiding has given me the confidence to achieve more and put myself forward in my work life. Within Girlguiding, I am at present a Rainbow leader, Guide leader and county commissioner, having also been a Brownie and Ranger leader, moving sections as the need arose in the area.
Girlguiding has given me the confidence to run my own business while in my early 20’s, work as an event manager organising large scale public events around the country, managing a team of people to make this happen and now organising girl events in my guiding county with skills crossing between the two. The skills and confidence I have gained as a member of Girlguiding has helped me in my various work roles over the years, especially my commissioner roles.
My work-life balance allows me currently to work as an admin manager for a private healthcare provider, working with a team of different aged individuals, helping at the moment to integrate a change in systems, but having been involved with the changes in Girlguiding systems over the years this has enabled me to share a positive approach to this and support the team I work with to make this happen!
Being part of the South West England trustee board I am able to represent county commissioners and members within the region, use my experiences from my guiding journey and managing a team, organising events, working with budgets/timescales, and integrating new systems from my work life."
