I was born in Jersey and I have lived here all my life. It is a beautiful place to live and we have plenty of vacancies for leaders if anyone is interested in moving over!
I started my Guiding journey as a Brownie, where I have fond memories of dressing up for Brownie Revels and slightly more scary ones of inspection time at the annual competitions! As I progressed up to Guides, I gained many lifelong friends and a good supply of stories of camping mishaps and adventures. I was very proud to achieve my Queen’s Guide award in 1983. After three years studying in Brighton, I returned to Jersey to work at the Jersey Library and became ‘Squirrel’ when I started my leadership qualification at Brownies.
I have held various roles within Girlguiding Jersey, most recently as Island Commissioner, a role which has allowed me to learn more about the wider aspects of Guiding in the South West England Region and beyond. I remain a Rainbow and Brownie leader. I really enjoy my weekly unit meetings and also get much enjoyment from the challenge of planning and delivering Island events such as centenary sleepovers, battle of flowers floats and our recent musical production.
Outside of Guiding my interests revolve around books, sewing, dance and theatre. I met my husband Ian during rehearsals for a show and both our children, Megan and Joseph, share our family affection for the theatre. Megan has also inherited my love of Guiding and runs her own Rainbow unit. These interests have led to my involvement in creating two South West Region resources, ‘Night at the Theatre’ and ‘Night at the Library’.
