I have been involved in Guiding since the age of seven when I joined Brownies, and have held many roles at all levels including Young Leader advisor for the Division and a County Appointment as Chair of the Junior Council. I have been a District Commissioner and am currently a joint District coordinator alongside my Guide Guider leader role which I’ve held for thirty or so years.
I have taken part in and have helped to run INTOPS weekends and was chosen as a team of six in the UK to go to Russia and Siberia as part of a GOLD project to teach English to Russian Girl Scouts on a ten-day camp. I love international Guiding and have helped to lead several trips to Switzerland. We love camping in our District and I’ve been part of the annual camp for almost forty years where I’ve undertaken most roles including cooking and first aid.
I have a passion for helping young people to be the best they can be and I draw on my experience of completing all three of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards to help with this. My greatest achievement alongside my Gold D of E award was completing my Queen’s Guide Award and I can use my knowledge to support current candidates who are working through it and advisors and mentors who are in a supporting role in helping them.
In my professional life, I was a primary school teacher on the leadership team for twenty-six years, and I am now the manager of a local community centre where I live. I am driven by the sense of community and I love how positive changes can improve the lives of local people for the better.
