The Big News!

'Event 2018'

HulkThe Region will be holding its next large-scale event in the summer of 2018. Our aim is always to hold events which a County or Island could not replicate due to the cost involved. The Region covers the infrastructure costs of these large-scale events and all the money raised from the sale of tickets is spent on providing activities. Because of the size of these events we need a location which can provide both large open spaces as well as sufficient room indoors in case of bad weather. We always endeavour to find a venue which is as central as possible, but this is of course dependent on the facilities required for the event we are planning.

We are very grateful to all those who completed our recent survey, and particularly those Leaders who encouraged their girls to also take part. One Leader who did this said she herself had found the survey really useful as it had helped her establish what activities her girls would like to participate in as a Unit.

We will now be looking at the survey results and will be taking on board your feedback when planning 'Event 2018'. One thing which has already become apparent is the number of girls who were not aware of previous Region events. We understand that it is not always possible for Leaders to be able to attend, but would urge you once again to please give your girls the opportunity to do so if they wish. Perhaps they could join up with another local Unit for the day, or if you are a new Leader and nervous about taking a group of girls to a large-scale event, have a word with the Leader of another Unit and see if you could travel together. This will often also help to reduce the cost of travelling as discounts are sometimes available for group travel on the trains or for booking a larger coach. And remember that financial help is available for Units which are suffering financial difficulty or are in an area of deprivation. A grant of upto £250 could be available to help with your travelling costs. Click here to go to the Girlguiding website for more information. It is also worth approaching organisations, local authorities, and even businesses in your area to see whether grants or other financial support could be available to you - click here to go to our Useful Information page for more on this.
