1st Wincanton Rangers - From Design to Flower Show
The Challenge that was set by Girlguiding UK was to design a balcony that represented Ultimate Adventures.
Straight away we though of Ester’s trek to Everest Base camp with the Region in September 2009. There was plenty of inspiration to take from that adventure so we got designing.
From the final result you can the aspects we have drawn from clearly such as the arc of white petunias representing the peak and snow of Everest. The orange drapes that cover the underside of the arc signify the molten core of the earth and tectonic activity that is responsible for the Himalayas.
Pink and white Begonias form the Centenary logo on the front panel, flanked by trefoils made from blue Lobellas and Yellow Marigolds.
In the centre of the balcony sits a camp chair with a rucksack perched on it. The Lotus Yellow plant trailing out of the top mimics clothes spilling out.
The final touches are made by Walking boots planted with Varigated Ivy and Peach Flambe, and a mug with Trailing Fuschia spilling out of it.
The hanging basket of French marigolds represents the sun and the two dream catchers suspended from the mountain are there to catch all our centenary dreams. |
27th May – the plants were moved to vertical boxes and flower pouches that were used for the final design.
2nd July – A 7.5 Ton Van, fully loaded with thousands of flowers and the arcs.
