Child Safety

SolangeGirlguiding UK takes the safety of girls and young women very seriously and enjoys an excellent reputation for providing a safe environment in which members can enjoy a huge range of both indoor and outdoor activities.

Recruitment checks are carried out on all volunteers who work directly with our young members. These include criminal record checks, gaining references, and an informal discussion with a local Guide Commissioner.

All our Leaders and Assistant Leaders have to earn a Leadership Qualification which includes a module covering safety and First Response training. Many also undertake other training such as Child Protection Awareness. All our volunteers follow clear safety guidelines.

Risk assessments are undertaken for all trips, residential events and holidays. Adventure activities are run by properly qualified instructors. We also have strict rules regarding the ratio of adults to girls when outside the usual meeting place:

Our volunteer Leaders give their time freely to ensure our young members have fun and can enjoy the opportunities that Guiding offers. If you have any concerns, please talk the matter through with the Leader in the first instance in order that the situation can be resolved as quickly as possible. If you feel you cannot do this, you can either speak to your local Commissioner, or contact the Region Office on 01722 329306.
