Vacancies in the Region Office

Girlguiding South West England currently has two vacancies in the Region Office:

Membership Support Officer: The successful candidate will work proactively with the team of Region Advisers and Coordinators, be Secretary to the Programme and Awards Sub-committees, assist with the administration and running of Region events, work with Lead Volunteers on the planning, organisation and delivery of Region trainings, be responsible for first aid in the Region Office and work with the Executive Manager on aspects of Health and Safety.

Growing Guiding Officer: The successful candidate will become the Region ‘expert’ on Go!, will interpret and analyse membership data from Go! and from the new Join Us system and will work alongside Lead Volunteers on various Growing Guiding initiatives.

The successful candidates will be required to work occasional Saturdays/Sundays and evenings to support Region meetings and events.  Both roles are based in the Region Office and are full time.  The Growing Guiding Officer is initially for three years.

Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society

DolphinBrownie Leaders might be interested in finding out more about the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society's Dolphin Diploma which has been created specifically for Brownies. Orangutan Appeal UK

Are Your Details Up To Date?

Go! LogoWe have received a number of requests recently from members who would like to receive our monthly Newsletter. Sadly, they should already be doing so and have been missing out because they have changed their e-mail addresses and these have not been updated on Go!.

The mailing list for the Newsletter is downloaded each month from Go! to ensure we are using current information - but this only works if you keep your records up to date! Yet another reason to check your entry and amend any information as required.

Think Big 2012

Following the success of the Region's Think Big applications in 2011 - which made the Senior Section Say... project possible, we are hoping for great things again in 2012 - the second of this three year initiative.

Think Big is a project with the O2 and the National Youth Agency (NYA). Girlguiding UK has been awarded 25 grants of £300 to put a project which you create into action! This is your chance to express your opinion and creativity and to play a positive role in your local community and in society.

Applications may be submited from 15th December and the closing date is 17th February 2012. Think about what you could do to make a positive change to the community in which you live, and then submit your application!

Brownie Adviser Vacancy

BrowniesWe are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate Brownie Adviser to work with the Programme Team to help grow Guiding for 7-10 year olds within the Region.  Our current Adviser, Liz Howard, is in post until September 2012, but we would like to appoint her successor to work alongside Liz for six months and become part of the Region team planning for the Brownie Centenary.  Applicants must have current experience of running a Brownie Unit and knowledge of all aspects of the current Brownie Programme.  For more information, contact Jenni Freeth on 01722 343186.  If you would like to be considered for the role, please complete the Expression of Interest Form  and return it to the Region Office by Wednesday 29th February.

Let's Go Wild!

Let's Go Wild BadgeGemma Hull from Ryde Rangers on the Isle of Wight has been working with the Isle of Wight Zoo which in turn has a special interest in the conservation of tigers.  Gemma has written a fantastic resource for all Sections to help raise funds for the Zoo's conservation projects. The resource is now available to download from our Website, or can be purchased through our Online Shop for £2.00 plus postage and packing. There is a great badge to accompany the Resource and the badge is on sale for £1.00 plus postage and packing, with 40p from the sale of each badge being donated to the Isle of Wight Zoo's conservation projects.

It's Carnival Time!

Carnival Logo20th Andover Guides have designed this fun, all sections resource to raise funds to cover some of their costs for trips and activities in 2012, and to go towards travelling costs when the unit attend their County Camp in 2013. The resource can be downloaded from our Website and the badges can be purchased direct from the Guide Unit for £1.00 each plus postage.

Bristol Dinosaur Project

thecodontosaurusThe University of Bristol have forwarded us details of a dinosaur illustration competiton which is being run by their Bristol Dinosoar Project. The competition is open to all ages and all you have to do is create a picture of Bristol's Thecodontosaurus! The winner will have the chance to visit the brand new Bristol Dinosaur Project Palaeo Lab and the winning entry will be displayed at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. All entries in each category will be displayed on the Bristol Dinosaur Project Website. To find out more about the competition (and what a Thecodontosaurus looked like!), click on this link which will take you to the Project's Website. The closing date for the competition is 30th April 2012. In the meantime, if you are a Unit Leader in the Bristol area and your girls are interested in finding out more regarding dinosaurs, The Bristol Dinosaur Project might be able to visit one of your meetings to talk about their work.

 

Flame 2012

Flame 2012 LogoHampshire West will be hosting their fifth International Camp for Guides and Senior Section girls at Foxlease from Monday 23rd to Sunday 29th July 2012. Flame 2012 will be centred around the Olympics and the Olympic and Paralympic values and it has been timed to coincide with the start of the Games.

“Go Guernsey”!

The “Go Guernsey” resource has been created to celebrate 100 years of Guiding in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The resource is for all sections, from Rainbows to Trefoil Guild, and is a great way to learn about some of the traditions and ways of life in this beautiful and individual part of the British Isles. Profits from the sale of badges will help members of Girlguiding Guernsey enjoy their Centenary Celebrations, and also help their chosen Centenary Charity, Water Aid.

BrumJam 2012

The Scout Association, County of Birmingham, are planning an exciting new camping experience - BrumJam 2012. The camp is open to Scouts and Guides and will offer a wide range of exciting activities.
