Join us for a Day of Adventure at Crealy!

Brownies on SlideSaturday 14th April is the last of our current series of Roadshows and we are finishing on a high! Cornwall’s Crealy Great Adventure Park promises a day of fun and thrills with a choice of heart-stopping rides guaranteed to have you and your friends gasping for breath!  But if speed, heights and water are not your thing, there are plenty of other activities to keep you entertained, like the Enchanted Forest with its mysterious secret walkways and the storytelling creatures that live there.  The Haunted House or the Dragon’s Kingdom with its slides, ball pools, mazes, nets and rope ladders.  There are even ponies to ride and a swamp to explore.

This event is aimed at our young members and we would like to extend an invitation to you to bring along one of your friends who is not currently in Girlguiding so they can find out for themselves what they are missing.  You can enjoy a wonderful afternoon of adventure – for free!  However, there are only 20 places left for the lunchtime session, so you need to book now to make sure you don’t miss out.

Click here to go to Crealy’s Website and find out more, or click here to download the invitation and booking form.

Guides Ahoy at Region Roadshow

Girls on riggingThe girls who attended our first Roadshow of 2012 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard certainly made good use of the facilities. They had brought their non-guiding friends along for the day to show them what modern Girlguiding is all about.

After brunch and an introductory chat by our Chief Commissioner, Solange Rebours, the girls and their guests were able to enjoy all the excitement of Action Stations, the Dockyard's Museum which is filled with all kinds of simulators, physical challenges and technological experiments - including one of the largest climbing towers in Europe. Then it was off to see HMS Victory and HMS Warrior where the girls tried on the uniforms and sampled life as a sailor living onboard a 19th Century warship.

Girls with Ship's WheelTaylor and Brooke Casey-Batley obviously had a brilliant time - top of their list were the climbing wall, the tour of HMS Victory and meeting the sailors (21st Century this time!)

Click here to see the photographic record of the day which the girls made. Their Dad has also sent in some great photographs which you can see on our Flickr site.

Girls go Wild in Jersey!

Girls with Durrell Bronze Our second Roadshow at the Durrell Wildlife Park in Jersey gave the girls a chance to get up close to some of the animals and birds which the Wildlife Park cares for. Although the weather let us down, we were given a very warm welcome and the girls evidently enjoyed themselves again. Have a look at our Flickr site to see the fabulous photographs of the day.

... and Talk to the Animals at the Isle of Wight Zoo!

Our young members had another great day out when our 2012 Roadshow visited the Isle of Wight Zoo. They handled snakes, got very close to the wallabies and even helped to feed the tigers!

Our Longleat Roadshow is now fully booked, but there are just a few places left for the last of this current series of 2012 Roadshows which is taking place at Cornwall's Crealy Great Adventure Park on Saturday 14th April.

Go to our Events & Training page to find out more.

Jubilee Time Capsule

Follow the link below to see Girlguiding Andover's contibution to the Jubilee Time Capsule. They have chosen to commemorate 22nd September 1960 as this was the day their Division Standard was dedicated. The Standard was handsewn by local Guiders in 1957 and is still representative of the area it celebrates.

Everyone can and should get involved too". You could register your Unit to take part in Climate Change week from 12th - 18th March 2012 and take a look at activities in "Together We Can" which is available through our online shop. Congratulations to our Olympic Torchbearer!

Congratulations to Alison Harris, Unit Guider with the 4th Portishead Brownies and 1st Portishead Guides, on being named as a Torchbearer in the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. She won a "Making a Difference Award" from her employers, Lloyds Banking Group, for her "outstanding contribution to the community through volunteering". Her prize included lunch with the Lloyds Bank Directors at the Savoy Hotel, a donation to Girlguiding UK and the opportunity to be an Olympic torchbearer. Alison will shortly hear whether she will be running on Tuesday 22nd May between Taunton and Bristol, or Wednesday 23rd May between Bristol and Cheltenham. Well done Alison!

Wimbleball

Wimbleball Girl Guides SWEA fabulously wet and wild time was had by all the girls who attended. Canoeing, sailing, raft-making, kayaking, windsurfing, rowing and generally getting very wet and muddy! And then there was the archery, climbing, orienteering and bat watching...
Re-live the weekend or see what you missed by viewing the slide show on our YouTube channel and taking a look at the photographs on Flickr.
