Adult Art Competition - "My Mountain-top Guiding Moment"
Girlguiding South West England are launching an art competition for adults that is to run alongside our exciting competition for the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.
Inspired by the energetic, colourful and vibrant triptych by John Dyer created to celebrate the Guiding Centenary and entitled ‘100 years of fun’, we would like our adult Guiding and Trefoil Guild members to mark their Guiding ‘mountain-top moment’ in a triptych of their own.
All of you would have, at least once, experienced a mountain-top moment throughout your time in Guiding,- an unforgettable event or occasion, that you may have thought previously unachievable without the support, encouragement and opportunities that Girlguiding lends to its members. Was it learning how to ice skate? Plucking up the courage to abseil off a building in front of your girls? (and surviving to tell the tale!) Making your promise with hundreds of others at a jamboree? Representing your region on an international trip? Or, and we know there are a few of you - scaling the heights of a real, challengingly cold, Mount Everest to make your promise from the summit?! We would love to see all of these moments and more, and discover just what you have all been up to!
If the thought of doing three pictures is somewhat intimidating - one large picture, with a little careful composition, could be cut into three on completion. The competition is open to all members over the age of 18 and we would like you to submit a high resolution image (jpeg format is preferred) of your best painting or mixed media picture on the theme of "My Mountain-top Guiding Moment" to us at pictures@girlguiding-southwestengland.org.uk Please type in the subject line of the email, ‘My Mountain-top Guiding Moment’ and in the email itself, let us know your name, the title of your picture, your address/contact details and the name of your Guiding unit/guild or county name. If you have no access to email then please post your entry with your details to: Girlguiding South West England, St Ann’s Manor, 6-8 St Ann Street, Salisbury SP1 2DN - we are sorry but we are unable to return your paintings to you. Download the John Dyer Gallery flyer about your competition.
Every Girlguiding and Trefoil Guild member who enters will receive a commemorative John Dyer Seagull cloth badge and we have lots of prizes to award for the pictures which best illustrate those ‘Mountain-top Moments’. All the pictures will be displayed on our special interactive gallery web site at www.girlguidingsouthwest.org.uk and will also be exhibited at Centenary events throughout the Centenary year.
The closing date for entries is 26 March 2010. Good luck and have fun!
